As Mary and Joseph left Jerusalem after the Passover, they had traveled a day’s journey before realizing that Jesus was not with the large group. They returned to Jerusalem where they found the twelve year old Jesus, “… in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.” (Luke 2:46-47)
Later in His life, Jesus commanded His disciples to, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye… have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” (John 5:39)
After His resurrection, Jesus walked on the road to Emmaus with two disciples who said, “Did not our heart burn within us…while he opened to us the scriptures?” (Luke24:32)
A love of the scriptures was woven in and through the Savior’s life. He studied the Holy Scriptures from His youth. He taught from their pages throughout His ministry. And today, His words still open our understanding and give us hope. May we follow His perfect example and “feast upon the word.”
